¿The Question is Why Not?

The poet or essayist tends to find that

he is complete by attaching himself

to something larger than himself. However, this may place him

in the center of the cosmos which

contains many universes.

Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson

were transcendentalists. This simply

means that they had transcended

the universe or society in which they

lived. ¿Don’t we all find ourselves living

within the restraints of a moral code

which is beyond the reach of most

of our society? This is our holy grail

which seeks to turn ideas into ideals.

We are constantly evolving into

who we think we are; idealists in a

less than ideal universe. We are not

misfits in this society so much as

heretics in a misfit world.

Our spiritual lives are lived in an

eternity. Our short physical lives come

to an early end. The dragons we slay

on the road to paradise are evil ideas

incapable of becoming the way home.

Home is where they have to take you

in when there is nowhere else to go.
